Riparian Habitat Workshop

Sliding scale $40 -$60
At this workshop you will learn to design and plant a native plant community to create or enhance an existing wildlife corridor or hedgerow on your farm.
Hands on Components will include conducting riparian habitat restoration
plant community creation at Suchernova Farm
-understanding design and plant material selection and placement
-willow and dogwood staking
-tree planting and propagation techniques
-free native plant material seeds and seedlings
-plant lists and resources to locate more natives
-browse protection for natives and tricks to control weeds
Join us to learn to design habitats for birds, butterflies, native insects and even reptiles. Your efforts will reward you with more wildlife viewing opportunities as well as improved habitat for a large number of native wildlife species.
Our Instructor, Maria Alvarez is a Sonoma County resident who has been conducting habitat restoration for the National Park Service at the GGNRA for 24 years. She is delighted to be hosting this plant workshop to help increase the biodiversity and enjoyment of our county.

Mushroom Cultivation & Farm Integration Workshop

Join Ryath Beauchene and Felicia Herron at Suchernova Farm, on the 27th of April for a hands-on day of mushroom cultivation skills and techniques. We will be covering the science, practicality, and potential applications of these skills as well as installing mushroom patches on site as well as inoculating maple logs with Shiitake mushrooms. Cob Oven Building Workshop
Cost for the workshop $80 per day, or $120 for the weekend. Kids free
Come learn the valuable craft of sculpting your own cob wood fired oven using Earth right from your property. Workshop will be lead by Miguel "Sir Cobalot" of Living Earth Structures who has been building ovens, benches, saunas and huts around Sonoma County and the world for the past 15 years. Miguel has extensive experience leading workshops, and teaching cob building in schools.
Saturday, May 3- Come for 1 or both days
1. Learn how to build a foundation for your oven.
2. We will be using adobe bricks to make the base of the oven, and will leave a space for wood storage below.
3. Insulate and set the bricks for the floor of the oven
4. Build the thermal mass layer shell of the hearth
5. Discussion of how to identify proper Earth for building. Bring a sample of Earth from your home
Sunday May 4.
